Our History

Profast was originally set up by Bobby Jeffries in Church Street Ballymena, Northern Ireland in 1956. It was set up to supply Stainless Steel Pipe and Fittings to a rapidly expanding Chemical Industry at the time and was involved in projects for companies such as Monsanto, ICI, Dupont and British Enkalon etc..

Some years later the company acquired the Ironmongery and Fastener business of J.C Westwood and merged the two companies to form Pipeflow Westwood Ltd. At this time the company moved to Belfast's Donegal Road (from where it still trades today) and Fasteners began to play a more significant role in the companies development.

In 1978 the Company expanded to open a branch in Dublin and thus Pipeflow Westwood (Irl) Ltd was formed. The early 80's saw a fall-off in major projects which resulted in reduced demand of Stainless Steel Pipe and Fittings, and the company adopted a new direction. Fasteners and Fixings were to become the core products and Architectural Ironmongery was added to the range along with Tools. Adapting to market forces brought about diversification and the company has now become one of Irelands Leading Engineering and Hardware Distributors.

In 1995 the company was to change hands for the third time in it's 40 year history when a Management buyout was put together by Brendan Flynn. Backing for this major change within the company was provided by ICC Bank (now Bank of Scotland (Irl) Ltd) who today hold 30% of the equity in the parent company. This gave the impetus for further change and on 1st July 1996 the company changed it's name to Profast.

It was not an easy decision to change a name that has served you well for so long and in recognition we have linked the old with the new. Pipeflow earned a reputation over the years for being Professional and Fast and the new name will continue to promote these attributes.

Shortly afterwards the company made it's first acquisition when it acquired Furniture Fixings (UK) Ltd (now Aptus Fastener Systems Ltd). and more recently another acquisition in the form of Toolfast Ltd. has been added to the group.
